5^th Sunday of Easter 18^th May: Focus: Love is necessary to spread the kingdom of God. – Jesus tells his Apostles that all will know they are his disciples if they love one another. We are called to follow this command to love, so that God can use us to draw the world to himself. This is what Paul & Barnabas are endeavouring to do in the first reading; they are proclaiming the Gospel out of love for God & his people so that the reign of his love might spread throughout the world.

Cloonacool Book Launch. The official opening of the new car park at Cloonacool Community Centre, on May 10 at 8.30pm, will be followed by a book launch organised by the newly formed Cloonacool Heritage Group. The book is a collection of the folklore pieces contributed by local children to the National Folklore Schools Collection in 1938. The launch will take the form of an introductory reflection by Fr. Vincent Sherlock & will be followed by a set of short performances featuring readings from the new book. Everyone is welcome to this event which promises an evening remembrance & celebration. 

Achonry National School were selected as part of the Swinford Tesco Community fund. Every time you shop in Tesco Swinford you get blue tokens, pop them into the tube for Achonry N.S. we are one of three causes in store for the next 12 weeks. The more blue tokens we have at the end of 12 weeks the bigger share of the funds for Achonry National School. 

'Live Life' National Youth Retreat at Knock Shrine. On May 8^th students from all over the country will gather in Knock Shrine to celebrate the life of Donal Walsh & to reflect on his message - to 'Live Life!' The Shepherd's Run / Walk

14^th June 6pm, 5km Walk/Run in aid of the South Sligo Cancer Support Centre, Tubbercurry. The Walk/Run is a loop around Dohern Hill & Chaffpool. Appropriate footwear for rugged terrain is advised. Amazing views & all for a wonderful cause, we hope you can join us. Donations on the day please.

Prayer for our newly elected Pope

Lord of life, love and hope, we thank you for the election of our new Pope.

Watch over, protect and bless Pope Leo XIV 
We pray that, led by the Holy Spirit, his faithful witness will be a beacon of hope in our fragile & often divided world.

May the joy of the Gospel inspire him with compassionate understanding so that, together, we can be peacemakers and life-givers.

May Pope Leo XIV be a good and courageous shepherd, concerned for "the least, the last and the lost" of "every tribe and tongue and people and nation". Guide him to be a leader after your own heart, which is more loving than we can possibly imagine.

We ask you, Lord, to surround our new Pope with people of pastoral wisdom as he adjusts to his new role. Fill him with confidence in the power of prayer. Help us to help him. Amen.
