4th Sunday of Lent 30th March: Focus: We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. – In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus presents God as a Father who loves all his children – the wayward & the dutiful - & seeks to draw them into a loving relationship & therefore share in his joy. Sometimes, like the younger son, we are swept up in God’s love, forgiveness, & mercy; other times, we set up barriers & resist it. Let us reflect on how God has been coming to meet us in our own lives.

A.M.C.E. group are seeking funding from the Heritage Council to carry out a graveyard survey at Court Abbey as part of our obligation to the Adopt a Monument project. We also intend to use an application that would allow us to record the information on gravestones affected by weathering that has resulted in some wording being illegible to the naked eye & another system that could identify the location of forgotten burials or those whose grave markers have been removed over time. All information gathered will then be recorded on the national Historic Graves website.
An excerpt from Bishop Kevin Doran’s Message to the Faithful of Achonry Diocese. 4th Sunday of Lent. -
I would like to share with you a short message I received on behalf of Pope Francis last week which was not just for me but for all of us:
“His Holiness wishes to assure you of his prayers as you take up your episcopal ministry in the dioceses of Achonry & Elphin, united in persona episcopi, & cordially imparts his Apostolic Blessing to you & to the faithful of the dioceses of Achonry & Elphin”.
As I renew my commitment today to serve you, the people of our two Dioceses, I ask your prayers & your practical support in being the Bishop I am called to be.
Finally, on this Mother’s Day, I would like to send my prayerful good wishes to all mothers across our two dioceses.
May God bless you all. +Kevin

LENT: Lent is an opportunity to deepen our commitment to God. The three Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, & almsgiving are practical ways we express our intention to return to the Lord.
In his message introducing the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis wrote, “The sacrament of Reconciliation is not only a magnificent spiritual gift, but also a decisive, essential & fundamental step on our journey of faith….. In this Jubilee Year, may no one be deprived of the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness & consolation.”
Trócaire is the Irish language word for “compassion”. Since it was founded by the Irish Catholic Bishops in 1973, Trócaire has put the compassion of the Irish people into action. For over 50 years, we’ve brought about lasting change & transformed the lives of millions across continents. This incredible impact is made possible by the generosity of the Irish people, who support our work through annual initiatives like the Trócaire Box Appeal & by volunteering their time to create a positive difference in the world. Last year Trócaire brought support & relief to 1.58 million people living in poverty, conflict & injustice. You can help, please take a Trócaire box (available at the door) & you can hand in your contribution at any of the Easter Ceremonies. Thank you.
