6th Sunday in Ordinary Time 16th Feb: Focus: God lifts us up to greater things. – Our Readings today emphasize that our eyes should not be fixed on things of this world. In his message introducing the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis wrote, “The sacrament of Reconciliation is not only a magnificent spiritual gift, but also a decisive, essential & fundamental step on our journey of faith. There, we allow the Lord to erase our sins, to heal our hearts, to raise us up, to embrace us & to reveal to us his tender & compassionate countenance. There is no better way to know God than to let him reconcile us to himself (cf. 2 Cor 5:20) & savour his forgiveness. Let us not neglect Confession, but rediscover the beauty of this sacrament of healing & joy, the beauty of God’s forgiveness of our sins!.......... In this Jubilee Year, may no one be deprived of the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness & consolation.”
To facilitate this request the Jubilee Committee from our two dioceses is asking priests & parishes to organise four occasions over this year when the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated across our dioceses. On 23rd March (Third Sunday of Lent) & 14th Sept (Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross) every Parish Church in our two diocese will have the Sacrament of Reconciliation available for the faithful at 3pm (some churches from 3-5pm). Priests will go to their neighbouring parishes to hear confessions. This celebration will be entitled “The Light is on for You”.
Choirs: Una Nolan will offer a workshop for parish choirs & folk groups in Swinford Parish Church on Wednesday, February 26th at 7.30 pm. The workshop will focus on liturgical music & song that can be used during Lent, Easter & Pentecost seasons
