33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time 17th Nov: Focus: The end of the world is coming; let us prepare. –When we ask for forgiveness & receive God’s mercy, we are preparing & living for him. If we live for him, then we will live on forever when the Lord returns. Choosing not to live for him results in disgrace when the end comes. The Lord does not desire that for us – he loves us & wants us to be with him. It’s a free, open, & generous invitation. Take hold of it!

The Sacred Heart Messenger: Christmas is a joyful celebration for Christian across the world – we say of it " 'tis the season to be merry." But what exactly does that mean to us? Does it signify a time of spending, indulgence, & expensive gifts? Or does the richness of the season come from sharing food & spending time with those we love? From reaching out with a helping hand & a listening ear to those who are in need? From stepping back from the noise & business of our commercial world & reflecting on the 'good news of great joy' brought by the Christmas angel on that first Christmas night?
Contributors to the December Messenger consider these themes during the days leading up to Christmas. Thus Peter McVerry SJ writes that Jesus gave us the Beatitudes as a way of living together as the family of God; Vincent Sherlock suggests that having an open ear & a listening heart for those around us is a true gift; Kevin Hargaden from JCFJ reminds us that the gift God gives us at Christmas is not trinkets but his actual presence; & Brian Grogan SJ encourages us to recognise the face of Jesus – himself a migrant – in those who come to our country fleeing violence & hunger.
Bishop Paul Dempsey suggests that we find more time to spend alone in reflection, with loved ones & with God; Patrick Carberry SJ writes that the forthcoming Jubilee Year is an opportunity to reset our lives in new, more faith-filled ways; David Breen looks at Elizabeth's story in the Gospels; & John Feehan writes that it is our privilege & responsibility to care for our earth because it is the garden God walks in & we have been invited to walk with him.

In his fourth encyclical, Pope Francis reflects on the Sacred Heart of Jesus: “The deepest part of us, created for love, will fulfil God’s plan only if we learn to love. And the heart is the symbol of that love.”
|
|
About the Encyclical:
Dilexit Nos is Pope Francis’s encyclical on the love of Jesus’s Sacred Heart, exploring how this divine & human love meets the deepest needs of our world today.
The Sacred Heart is not only a symbol but a living reality that invites us to unity, compassion, & transformation.
Through Jesus’s actions, words, & sacrifice, we see His enduring closeness to us, His profound mercy, & His desire for our reconciliation with God & each other.
This text calls Catholics to return to the heart, where true self-understanding & love for others begin, & to embrace a faith that inspires both personal & societal renewal.
