Proposed Purchase of land at Lavagh
The community have an opportunity to purchase a strategic piece of land in Lavagh. Circa 3.01 acres (see map below) is for sale adjoining the car park at Mullinabreena Church. Parcels of land in strategic locations like this do not come on the market very often. We are recommending that AMCE (Achonry/Mullinabreena Community Enhancement Group CLG) should acquire the land on behalf of the community as they are best placed to avail of development grants in future. We are appealing to people in our community for a contribution to enable the acquisition of this land. Our immediate priority is to acquire the land. In future we will establish a representative group from the community to consider options for utilisation of the land.
The purchase price of the land is €30k + acquisition costs. We are looking for circa 65 donations of €500 to make this happen. The response from the community to date is very positive.
We are fortunate to live in an area with many community & sporting groups including: The Hub, Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA club, AMCE, Achonry Farmers Market, St Nathy’s Ladies GFC, Mullinabreena Community games, Cnoc Na Sí Women’s Shed & many more. All of these groups & Achonry/ Mullinabreena Parish have expressed support for this initiative. We deeply appreciate all the support that local people provide to ALL groups in our community & conscious of existing commitments that people have. We hope this will be another example of a community taking action to invest in an asset for the long term benefit of the people of Achonry/Mullinabreena.
Please get in touch with any member of the committee if you would like to donate or if you have any queries.
