PARISH OFFERTORY COLLECTION ENVELOPES
The parish offertory boxes for 2024 are available at the church doors. Your continued generosity is greatly appreciated. A sincere thanks to those who are using the envelopes, standing orders or direct payments. These contributions have ensured that the parish has not fallen into financial difficulty, despite a significant drop in the number of offertory boxes distributed in the past ten years, down from 250 to 160. This money enables us to maintain the parish churches to a high standard. It is still heartening that many are keen to see our church renewed & refreshed. Using the envelopes also facilitates the parish in availing of the Revenue tax-back, which is a great financial benefit for our parish. The Offertory Collection money is used to maintain the two churches in the parish & the parochial house. This covers the cost of heating, lighting, insurance, painting & decorating, the diocesan levy, church requisites & stationary needs, & general maintenance. If you would like to contribute to upkeep of our parish, please let me know & I will issue you with an offertory box & add your name to the parish database. Last year a new roof was completed on Mullinabreena Church, this was a big undertaking, but necessary. Again, a most sincere thank you to everyone who has responded so generously to this project. I thank you for your support to the various church collections, & for your ongoing weekly support to our parish. It is very much appreciated. God Bless. Fr. Peter.

Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for World Mission Day 2023
Hearts on fire, feet on the move (cf. Lk 24:13-35)
Dear brothers and sisters!
For this year’s World Mission Sunday, I have chosen a theme inspired by the story of the disciples on the way to Emmaus, in the Gospel of Luke (cf. 24:13-35): “Hearts on fire, feet on the move”. Those two disciples were confused and dismayed, but their encounter with Christ in the word and in the breaking of the bread sparked in them the enthusiastic desire to set out again towards Jerusalem and proclaim that the Lord had truly risen. In the Gospel account, we perceive this change in the disciples through a few revealing images: their hearts burned within them as they heard the Scriptures explained by Jesus, their eyes were opened as they recognized him and, ultimately, their feet set out on the way. By meditating on these three images, which reflect the journey of all missionary disciples, we can renew our zeal for evangelization in today’s world. (part one of message)

LET JUSTICE & PEACE FLOW
The Season of Creation 2023 runs from September 1st (the World Day of Prayer for Creation) to October 4th (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi). This Season is a wonderful opportunity to respond to the call of Pope Francis to listen to the cry of the earth & the cry of the poor. As the ecological crisis worsens our newsfeeds are filled with stories of devastation, particularly in the most vulnerable parts of the world. Creation cries out as forests burn, animals flee, lives are lost and people are forced to migrate.
The theme for this year’s Season is inspired by the Prophet Amos who cries out: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24). The symbol is that of a ‘mighty river’: “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19). As we join the river of justice & peace with others then hope is created instead of despair, “for we know that things can change!” (Laudato Si’, 13).
Also a new ‘Care for Our Common Home’ webpage has been launched on the Irish Bishop’s Conference website which contains a suite of resources for the Season of Creation, a “Returning to Nature” section for parishes who wish to ‘go wild’ & much more. All on https://www.catholicbishops.ie/laudato-si/
