23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time 10th Sept: Focus: Jesus is present when we gather together & love one another. – The liturgical gathering makes Christ present in numerous ways, such as through the proclamation of the word of God & in the Eucharist. Perhaps the most overlooked reality of Christ’s presence comes through the physical gathering of God’s people, who are instructed to owe nothing to anyone except love. This love between us makes God’s presence visible on earth.
SYMPATHY: We remember in our prayers at this time: Winnie Hosey, Bristol, England, (wife of John Hosey, native of Achonry).

LET JUSTICE & PEACE FLOW
The Season of Creation 2023 runs from September 1st (the World Day of Prayer for Creation) to October 4th (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi). This Season is a wonderful opportunity to respond to the call of Pope Francis to listen to the cry of the earth & the cry of the poor. As the ecological crisis worsens our newsfeeds are filled with stories of devastation, particularly in the most vulnerable parts of the world. Creation cries out as forests burn, animals flee, lives are lost and people are forced to migrate.
The theme for this year’s Season is inspired by the Prophet Amos who cries out: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24). The symbol is that of a ‘mighty river’: “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19). As we join the river of justice & peace with others then hope is created instead of despair, “for we know that things can change!” (Laudato Si’, 13).
Also a new ‘Care for Our Common Home’ webpage has been launched on the Irish Bishop’s Conference website which contains a suite of resources for the Season of Creation, a “Returning to Nature” section for parishes who wish to ‘go wild’ & much more. All on https://www.catholicbishops.ie/laudato-si/
