29th Sunday in Ordinary Time 16th Oct: Focus: Persist in prayer. – Prayer comes easily in times of need. But how often do we breathe in the silence & communicate with God – to hear his word, to know his will, to find true peace? Let us persist in our prayer to God, who made all things & keeps them in existence.

SYMPATHY: We remember in our prayers at this time: Mary Donohoe, Wexford, (nee Normanley, Belaghy, sister of Kathleen Gorman, Carrowmore).

May the Souls of the faithful departed rest in peace

Time Change: The time goes back one hour on Saturday night 29th October. From then until the end of March the Saturday Vigil Mass will be at 6pm.

ACHONRY CAMINO: As a follow-up to the Achonry Youth Day last July, the Youth Ministry Commission has organized an ‘Achonry Camino’ on Sunday, October 30th. The route will be from there towards Court Abbey, then to climb Knocknashee & return to the Hub, where there will be a debriefing session followed by refreshments. There will be a short passage of Scripture for reflection along the route, a guided tour of the Abbey & an opportunity for a shared reflection on the experience on return to the Hub. The whole event will be approx two hours.

A workshop for Readers of the Word: It will include reflections on the importance of the Scripture readings in the liturgy, & tips on voice projection & the use of audio equipment in churches. PARISH OFFERTORY COLLECTION ENVELOPES

The parish offertory envelope boxes for 2023 are available at the church doors. Sincere thanks to all who are using the envelopes, these contributions have ensured that the parish has not fallen into financial difficulty, despite the parish finances being badly impacted by prolonged periods of lockdown because of the pandemic. This money enables us to maintain the parish churches to a high standard. It is heartening that so many are keen to see our church renewed & refreshed. Using the envelopes also facilitates the parish in availing of the Revenue tax-back, which is a great financial benefit for our parish. The Offertory Collection is used to maintain the two churches in the parish & the parochial house. This covers the cost of heating, lighting, insurance, painting & decorating, the diocesan levy, church requisites & stationary needs, sanitizing & general maintenance. If you require a box of envelopes, please let me know & I will add your name to the parish database. The new roof has been completed on Mullinabreena Church, this was a big undertaking, but necessary. If you are in a position to help, please know that your support is most welcome. Bank details are: Mullinabreena Church IBAN: IE20 BOFI 9054 9111 7571 99   -   BIC: BOFIIE2D. A sincere thank you to everyone who has responded to this project, & for your ongoing weekly support to our parish. It is very much appreciated. Fr. Peter.

World Mission Sunday is the Holy Father’s annual appeal for spiritual & financial support so that the life-giving work of overseas mission & missionaries can continue. It always falls on the second last Sunday in October, & like the Good Friday collection for the Holy Land & Peter’s Pence, it is one of three yearly universal Church collections.

World Mission Sunday collections take place in every single parish where the Church is present. This includes not only Ireland & Europe, but also in poorer parishes in developing countries. It is a moment of universal solidarity when each member of the Church family, regardless of location or background, play their part in supporting each other. This is what makes it such a special celebration.

Please support World Mission Sunday on the weekend of 22/23 October

"I lean towards God who gives sense and purpose to what my world should be. Maybe it's not worked out like other people's understanding. God wants us to be good and create goodness. For me, that is trying to be the best I can be." - Brian Mullins

In his final interview before his sudden passing, Dublin football legend Brian Mullins spoke about his life, and his beliefs. Brian spoke with honesty and great courage, as he always did - and his words in 'Faith: In Search of Greater Glory in Sport' should live with everyone who wants to succeed, but more importantly wishes to compete, without fear.

Over 20 of Ireland's greatest sports stars, including Katie Taylor, Josh van der Flier, Sean Kelly, Johnny Murtagh & Ciaran Carey, were equally open, just like Brian, about their lives & their faith.

Faith in themselves, faith in their teammates & backroom team, & faith in a greater power perhaps that can help them to reach their greatest potential on the biggest stages of their sporting careers.

Also included in this revealing & important book are Sean Boylan, Ronnie Delaney, Lena Tice, Ciara Mageean, Barry McGuigan, Eamonn McAuley, Gladys Ganiel, Bernard Dunne, Eamonn McAuley, Niamh Cotter, Tony Og Regan, Deirbhile O'Keeffe, Earl McCarthy, & Gerard Hanley.

Tracy Piggott, Olive Foley & figures from the world of chaplaincy in sport (including John Boyers, retired chaplain at Manchester United FC) also join in the conversation.

'Faith: In Search of Greater Glory in Sport' is available now in all good bookstores (& also on Amazon as an ebook €9.99, paperback €20, & hardback €25)

Hooley in the Hub: On the First Friday of every month at 8pm. A night of music, song, story-telling, & refreshments. Come along & enjoy the fun & banter.

Mary’s Meals: Mary’s Meals has continued to grow &, now in our 20th year, is providing meals for 2,279,941 children every school day in 20 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean. It costs just €18.30 to feed a child in a place of education for an entire school year & we guarantee that at least 93% of all donations goes directly towards our charitable activities. This is only made possible because of our army of volunteers; both at home & in our programme countries. However wonderful this is, our work has a long way to go. A global hunger crisis looms, & the number of hungry people has doubled in two years, while those living in outright famine have increased 500% since 2016. It is estimated that there are lots of punts/pence and old sterling still in circulation. We are appealing for your old punts/pence, old sterling & other currencies that are lying around the house in jars & tins. You don’t need to count it. We are willing to collect it from you if you are willing to donate it! Copper cents are welcome also. If you are a prepay customer on your mobile phone & have unused credit at the end of the month, you can use it to donate to Mary’s Meals. Just text the word “JOY” to 50300. Texts cost €4. Mary’s Meals will receive a minimum of €3.60. Service Provider: LIKECHARITY Helpline: 01 4819311
