Safeguarding Sunday - Diocese of Achonry 7th Nov 2021

Bishop Paul’s Letter re: Safeguarding is available at the church door.

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time 14th Nov: Focus: We are destined to live with God forever, to have the fullness of joys in [his] presence. – The Lord is our inheritance, says today’s psalm. He will show us the path of life & the fullness of joys in [his] presence. But we know not when that time will come – for each one of us individually, & for the world. So vigilance is the order of the day: preparing ourselves & the world for the great prince of whom Daniel speaks – the coming of the Son of Man who has taken away our sins.

Special Appeal: The special parish collection on 6th & 7th November to support Trócaire’s work to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in East Africa amounted to €1050. Sincere thanks for your generosity in reaching out to help those in need. You can look up Trocaire.org or the IEC website for more information. Thanks again for your support for this initiative.

World Mission Sunday is in October each year. It’s the one Sunday in the year when the entire global Church comes together to support mission. And every single donation from these worldwide Masses goes to support churches, hospitals, schools & vocations in countries where the Church is new, young or poor. Thanks for your support of this collection amounting to €967

Covid 19: The number of deaths worldwide is now at 5,108,860. 46,018 deaths in the past week. Republic of Ireland deaths 5,566. That’s 74 deaths in Ireland last week. The number of positive cases in Ireland is now 493,001, so 1 in every 10.2 has tested positive.

The refurbishment of the Community Hub is now underway & promises to be a great facility for young & old. Volunteers have been busy cleaning & painting the outside. We have now moved inside to clean & begin creating a pop up Community Café, Function Room & Social Club. We are looking for help so if you have any time to spare & want to lend a hand please contact Noel on 087 2502471. If you see the door open come in & have a look around this great Community asset.

Achonry Farmers Market: Every Saturday from 10am to 1pm in Nace O'Dowd Park. Thank you to the large number of volunteers who make this happen. We are appealing to members of the community to support the market to ensure its continued success. Drop in for a cup of tea/coffee & meet the locals in this friendly environment. The market has a new & unused stall & if anyone has any items for the stall please drop them in to the market. Thank you.

Latest Guidelines Re. Covid Restrictions:

“Religious services can proceed without capacity limits but with all other protective measures remaining in place” This is a very positive measure; however, it is imperative that all other Covid-19 protective measures remain in place in order to protect all members of our communities/congregations.

Premises should be well ventilated, hand sanitiser should be provided & face masks should be worn. Congregations should spread out as much as possible when attending Places of Worship & those experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms should not attend. As the capacity of Places of Worship & numbers attending varies greatly, the onus will be on each Place of Worship & community to consider what they are comfortable with & what best suits their congregation. This will be particularly relevant for ceremonies, with large congregations in attendance. Attendees on these occasions should not be permitted to stand in the aisles or doorways & hand-shaking & the use of condolence books/sharing of Booklets etc should be avoided. It would be best practice at this time not to provide holy water in the fonts of churches.

Choirs or soloists performing in Places of Worship should be limited in line with the size/capacity of the venue & should adhere to 2 metre social distance from other singers, the choir master, the congregation & any other individuals in the setting (as they will not be wearing face masks during performances).

Covid will be with us for some time to come. As we go forward people will need to exercise strong personal responsibility with regard to safety measures at all church gatherings.

Book Sale/Swap: AMCE are holding a book sale/swap at the Achonry Market every Saturday. Book sale/swap will also be held in Carrowmore School Eircode F56EF63 every Sunday from 2pm-4pm. If these times don't suit please contact Brid 0866081926 or Margaret 0872875458 to arrange a time.

“Synodal Journey” Synod Prayer:

“We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go & how we are to pursue it. We are weak & sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life & not stray from the way of truth & what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place & time, in the communion of the Father & the Son, forever & ever. Amen”

Parish Offertory Envelopes 2022

The parish offertory boxes for 2022 are available at the church doors. Sincere thanks to all those who are using the envelopes, these contributions have ensured that the parish has not fallen into financial difficulty. Using the envelopes also facilitates the parish in availing of the Revenue tax-back, which is a great financial benefit for our parish. Your parish envelope contribution is our only source of funding for the running of our parish & the maintenance & upkeep of our two churches & our parish buildings. This income has reduced drastically since the start of Covid 19, & only a fraction of those who contributed could have figures submitted for the Revenue-return for 2020. The contract is now signed for a new roof for Mullinabreena church. If you require a box of envelopes, please let me know & I will add you to the parish database. Your support is very much appreciated. Thank you.
