Just as God led Moses & the Israelites out of Egypt & through 40 years of hardship & danger in the desert, so Jesus gives us the strength we need as we follow him through the dangers of this life.

Nothing Can Separate Us

June 10, Diocese of Achonry

Please see the document produced by the Western Dioceses in response to the requirements for return to Worship from June 29th. Entitled, “NOTHING CAN SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD”, the document seeks to set out a roadmap for return to worship. This journey will involve & depend on so many people. Volunteers will be required in every parish & community

SUPPORT POPE FRANCIS' COVID-19 EMERGENCY FUND
Your help is urgently needed to help overseas missionaries & vulnerable communities to defend themselves against COVID-19. In Africa, Asia & Latin America the Church is often on the frontline. In remote, inaccessible areas, it is missionaries who respond, as best they can, to the medical & pastoral needs of suffering communities. Missionaries already face too many challenges; working in over-crowded communities with no running water. In shantytowns & refugee camps where social distancing is simply impossible, & where self-isolation could mean starvation. To help protect these fragile communities, Pope Francis has announced the COVID-19 Emergency Fund. If you can, please give so that our less-fortunate brothers & sisters have a fighting chance at suppressing COVID-19. Donate by going online www.wmi.ie/covid-fund or call Fiona on 01 497 2035. Bank of Ireland Transfer Details: Account Name - Society for the Propagation of the Faith. IBAN - IE12 BOFI 9007 5456 9616 36    BIC - BOFIIE2D

Trócaire: Trócaire says a big thank you to all the people who responded to their Lenten Campaign. If you have not yet contributed I encourage you to use the on-line option. For those who are unable to use the on-line option your donations can be handed in to the parish & they will be forwarded to the Diocesan Office in the usual way.

Options available: Online at www.trocaire.org By post to any of our offices: Trócaire, Maynooth, Co. Kildare

STAY WITH US LORD

The six Western Dioceses (the Tuam Province) have planned a new initiative as part of the ongoing response to the pastoral challenge presented by COVID-19. One of the important Gospel stories of these Easter days is the account of how the two disciples met the Risen Jesus on the road to Emmaus and how they asked him: “Stay With Us Lord; it is almost Evening”. With this in mind, we are inviting you to join us for a 20 min reflection, each Sunday at 6.30 pm between now and Pentecost. Each reflection will be given by a different guest presenter & will be broadcast on webcam from a different location in the West. Sunday Prayer Time 6.30 p.m. The reflection can be accessed this week at achonrydiocese.org/staywithuslord

Phase 2 easing of restrictions: From Monday June 8th, the following changes came into effect:

  • You can travel within your own county, or up to 20 km from your home, whichever is greater. These limits will change at end of June.
  • Groups of up to 6 people can now interact with each other indoors or outdoors, once they keep at least 2m apart.
  • Groups of up to 15 can meet for outdoor sporting activities.
  • For those who are over 70 or medically vulnerable, it is now possible to welcome a small number of visitors into your home, with physical distancing observed.
  • Shops will also provide dedicated hours for those who are over 70 or in an at risk group.
  • All retail stores can reopen, but opening times will be staggered to relieve pressure on public transport.
  • You are encouraged to shop locally, shop safely & support businesses in your community.
  • Up to 25 people are allowed to attend funerals of loved ones.
  • Public libraries will commence re-opening.
  • Playgrounds can reopen from Monday, & outdoor camps for children can also be run, once there are no more than 15 people involved.
  • Certain types of elite sports training will also be possible.
  • More people will be able to return to work, including all those who work on their own or whose work can be done safely while staying 2m apart from others.
  • Working from home should remain the norm for those who can do so.
  • Marts can re-open & greyhound racing can resume without spectators.

Details of the CLÁR programme for 2020.

CLÁR is one element of a €30 million package of co-ordinated & complementary supports that is being launched by the Minister this week as part of the Rural Development Programme. The other elements of the programme to be opened later this week will be the Town & Village Renewal Scheme & the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. The Rural Development Investment Programme is funded under Project Ireland 2040. A standard grant rate of up to 90% of the total cost of projects across all of the CLÁR Measures this year. This should ensure that the requirement on communities or Local Authorities to source match funding is kept to a minimum. CLÁR provides funding for small scale infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered significant levels of population decline. The supports provided have been tailored this year to help rural communities to respond to the new COVID-19 environment. This includes the addition of new funding measures. The measures funded are: 1. Schools/ Community Safety measures (expanded in 2020). 2. Community Recreation Areas. 3. Community Wellbeing Supports; Meals on Wheels & linked services, Mobility & Cancer Care Transport. Application deadline: 28th August
