2nd Reading Tm 2:8-13. Gospel Lk 17:11-19.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time 6th October: Focus: God’s gift is not a spirit of timidity, but one of faith-filled courage. – Courage lies at the heart of all our readings today – the courage to be faithful before the Lord in all things. Like the disciples, we, too, should be unafraid to ask him for an increase in faith. For Jesus reminds us that even with the smallest amount of faith, we have the capacity to do great things in his name.

SUNDAY, 6TH OCTOBER

October is Mission Month! This year's theme, 'Together We Are Mission', is asking you to move away from the idea that mission work is solely the work of priests & sisters, catechists & lay missionaries, & to consider the part you play. After all, it is because of the prayers & generosity of people just like you that hope, love & joy can continue to be shared with the suffering & neglected. Please consider using your generosity right now. Donate €4 to the work of missionaries overseas, many of whom work in impoverished communities, text the word 'Mission' to 50300. (Texts cost €4. World Mission Ireland will receive a minimum of €3.60. Service Provider: LikeCharity. Helpline: 076 680 5278. Republic of Ireland only.) World Missions Ireland, the Church's charity for overseas mission, is responsible for the coordination of Mission Month. Go to www.wmi.ie to learn more about their work.

Day for Life prayer

Holy Mary, Mother of Love,
holding in your arms, the fruit of your womb,
graciously look upon our earth and remove from it
all that hardens our hearts and dims our eyes
to the preciousness of human life,
from the moment of conception to natural death.

Through the example of your tenderness
teach us the ways of compassion and love
that we may build up the civilisation of love among us
and a society that is truly worthy of the human person.

Help us to reject all that contributes to a culture of death,
and to work with others of goodwill
in promoting the culture of life.

Bring us ever closer to your Son,
so that we may know the fullness of life that he offers us
and come to know that life more perfectly,
with you, and all the angels and saints,
in the eternal life of Heaven. Amen.
