Easter Sunday 21st April: Focus: The risen Christ seeks to transform & redeem our lives. – The resurrection of the Lord is the highest of all feasts – the day in which we celebrate the truth that Jesus conquers & redeems every darkness of life, even death itself. Truly this is a day of rejoicing! For even when events are unclear to us – when we do not understand what we see before us, like those who saw the empty tomb – we can be confident in the words & promises of God.

Wedding: Congratulations & best wishes to Janette Marren, Streamstown, & Stuart Rutherford, Sligo. Their marriage took place in Mullinabreena Church on Saturday 13th April.     

We wish them many years of health & happiness

BALLYMOTE DARKNESS INTO LIGHT: The local DIL committee want to help people to get online & register. It’s such an important event & the money is making a concrete difference on the ground in Sligo with a Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officer providing real help to real people. Registration on Monday 29th April in Corran College from 2pm-6pm. 

Ballad singer and well-known song writer, Tommy Sands will play a house concert at Moy River Folk Club in Cloonacool on Saturday 27th April at 8pm. Sands is best known for his song, ‘There Were Roses’ & remains a living treasure in Irish folk music circles. Booking on 087 2512030.

COOLANEY MALLINABREENA GAA NOTES

The Sam Maguire Cup will visit our Club on May 4th. This will be an opportunity for young players & their families to get their picture taken with the cup in what promises to be exciting day for the club.

Nace O Dowd Park will host our first home senior league game of the season when we take on Coolera Strandhill on Sunday 21st at 3pm, hopefully we will have a big home crowd to support the team.

Our under 21 team were defeated by Eastern Harps by 1-12 to 0-9 in Keash last Sunday to bring an end to their Championship hopes for 2019. The minor team take on Eastern Harps on Monday 22nd at 6.30, best of luck to Team & Management. The under 16 team came up short against Coolera Strandhill in a very competitive game last Tuesday in Nace O’Dowd Park.

The U14’s played Curry on Thursday in the first game of the league, unfortunately we were on the wrong end of the result on the day.

Each year our charity, Northwest STOP helps people in distress or with mental health issues in the Northwest region. We provide up to 8 free counselling sessions to each client seeking our help & many of these clients have told us of the great improvement in their lives through availing of this service.

Banada Tourlestrane Housing Association (BTHA): Supply meals-on-wheels to elderly, the sick, those just returned home from hospital, or others who through circumstances are not able to prepare meals for themselves. Triple P is a FREE parenting programme. It gives practical tips & strategies to help parents cope positively with the challenges of raising children & managing misbehaviour making family life more enjoyable. TubberRocksThis is a new art project being run by the FRC in conjunction with the local library. A fun new game of Hide & Seek with Rocks! To find out more follow our facebook page @TubberRocks. Breastfeeding Support group. This new peer support group is for all pregnant & new & experienced mothers & dads. The group meet on Tuesdays in the FRC from 10.30am-12.30 midday. Information & support provided by Lifestart staff. All welcome.

Kayak tasters for Adults Temple House. Sligo sport & recreation partnership are offering adult Kayaking taster session on May 2nd(men only), 9th (women only), & 16th (mixed) from 7-9pm. Tubbercurry Men’s Shed @ Banada: Meets on Wednesdays at 8pm. The group have numerous programmes & activities planned for the coming year including Cookery, First Aid, Genealogy, Art & much more. Midland Warmer Homes in conjunction with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland run a Warmer Homes Scheme. This project is free to individuals who are in receipt of one of the following - Fuel Allowance; or Family Income Supplement (FIS); or Jobseeker’s Allowance (for more than 6 months with a child/ren under 7); or One Parent Family Payment; or Domiciliary Care Allowance; or Careers Allowance - living with the person you care for; the person must own their own house & the house must be built before 2006. The Community Group A sub-committee of the CMCEG is now pushing for safety improvements on the N17 junctions within this catchment area. Town Twinning 20th Anniversary of the twinning between Viarmes & Tubbercurry. A group from South Sligo will be travelling to Viarmes from May 9th- 13th. There will be various activities including a day trip to Paris organised by our French hosts. The cost of flights are reasonable at the moment with Ryanair.
