8th Sunday in Ordinary Time 3rd March: Focus: Let us be faithful in speech & action. – The first reading today uses the example of a sieve to show how grain (good fruit) is separated from the husks (the dead shell). Tribulation & difficulties are sieves in our own lives - & when we are shaken, the real fruit of who we are will be revealed in both our speech & actions.

Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS): The primary task of the SSpS is to proclaim the Good News. Their ministry includes Education, Health Care, Social Work, Pastoral Care, with special emphasis on the Poor, the Vulnerable, the Marginalised, the Excluded,  Justice & Peace, Dialogue with people of other beliefs, Try to build up Christian communities, promote lay leaders, & defend the Rights & Dignity of women. Sr Renate SSpS says thank you very much for the privilege of being in your lovely parish last weekend & my sincere gratitude to the parishioners for their much appreciated generosity. The amount raised was €869.85. Thank you & remembering you in my prayers.

Annual litter pick from Fri 15th to Fri 24th March, bags & some pickers available. Please let us know if you are willing to help.

      Many years have passed since there was a play in St Nathy’s Hall. A huge thanks to those who came out to suppprt "I do not like thee Dr Fell". It was a great success. Thank you to Cloonacool Players for a wonderful performance, we wish them all the best in the up-coming festivals. Also thanks to all our helpers & those who gave raffle prizes.

A Holy Hour of Eucharistic Healing with hymns, readings, reflections & quiet prayer in Charlestown Church, Sunday 10th March 6 pm. All are welcome.

(Re)opening the Word: A Short Biblical Studies Course Summerhill College, (Thursdays 8-9:30pm). Looking for something positive to do this Lent? Want to learn more about the Bible? The Theology Programmes Team at St Angela's College Sligo invites you to sample a short course in Biblical Studies across five weeks this Lent. For beginners, those with a casual interest, & anyone who has questions about the Bible & its relevance for today's world. The following are suggested as ways of fulfilling Lenten penance:

  • Abstaining from meat or some other food;
  • Abstaining from alcohol or tobacco;
  • Making a special effort at involvement in Family prayer;
  • Making a special effort to participate in Mass;
  • Visiting the Blessed Sacrament;
  • Making the Stations of the Cross;
  • Fasting from all food for a longer period than usual & perhaps giving what is saved to the needy;
  • Helping the poor, sick, old or lonely.

Information session about becoming a foster carer: Have you ever considered the possibility of fostering? The local Tusla foster care resource team are inviting anyone interested in finding out more about fostering to an information session in Tubbercurry FRC on Tuesday 5th March from 11am-1pm.

Bump to Baby Coffee Morning March 13th: Tubbercurry Family & Childcare resource centre are hosting a coffee morning for expectant & new parents (1-12 months) on Wednesday March 13th from 11am -1pm. Guest speakers giving tips for a healthy pregnancy & post birth as well as the importance of attachment & bonding. Info & advice available on parenting courses, supports etc. Most importantly there will be time after for a warm cuppa & a chat with other parents. Cancer Support Group meet in 53 Ard Asling on Wed 6th March at 8pm. This meeting is for people who have or have had cancer. This group will take a new format to encourage new members to join.

Living after Prostate Cancer. A new 6 week workshop will be held in 53 Ard Aisling, Tubbercurry, on Monday March 4th. From 7.30.till 9.30. This workshop is for men who have survived or are recovering from prostate cancer.

Sincere thanks to those who have returned their CHY3 Tax Relief Forms for 2018-22. This will be of great financial benefit to the Church in Achonry/Mullinabreena. 40 have returned forms so far, (there are at least 50 more who signed in previous years & are eligible to sign again but have not yet done so), I sincerely thank all who have responded & I encourage others to consider signing & returning the form to Fr Peter as soon as possible. Thanks to all people who contribute to the upkeep of the Church & Parish.

Town Twinning 20th Anniversary of the twinning between Viarmes & Tubbercurry. A group from South Sligo will be travelling to Viarmes from May 9th- 13th. There will be various activities including a day trip to Paris organised by our French hosts. The cost of flights are reasonable at the moment with Ryanair. Student Exchange: A group of Students 16-18year olds from Viarmes will be visiting Tubbercurry April 23rd - 30th. We would like to hear from Host families prepared to take 1 or 2 students for the week, preferably with students of similar age. Activities will be planned for the students most days.
