Fourth Sunday of Advent 24th Dec: Focus: Have faith in God’s promises. – Sometimes, as children, we think that a special day, such as Christmas or a birthday, will never arrive, but it always does, eventually. The people of the Old Testament were waiting for centuries for the coming of the Messiah to free them. Jesus did come, but it took a long time before he was accepted.

Christmas Day – The Nativity of our Lord – 25th Dec: Today we celebrate the birth of Christ. In the darkness of the night, God’s purest light appears in human history, offering us a share in God’s eternal life & mercy. – The Christmas story is known to all through word, song & tradition. But it is more than an account of a baby born in difficult circumstances. For this is no ordinary child, but one sent to us from the very heart of God – a child who is innocent & powerless, yet has within him the awesome capacity to reconcile & heal.

Venerable Fr Patrick Peyton: Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, on Dec 18, declared Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C. “Venerable.”

The Holy Cross Congregation & followers of Fr Peyton all over the world are overjoyed with this news. How exciting & encouraging it is just to write the designation, “Venerable”! This designation represents a rare recognition by the universal Church that Father Peyton is a person of heroic virtue & a life worthy of veneration by all Christians. This is a step closer to Beatification & Sainthood.

Over the years, Father Peyton advocated for families by preaching two powerful & memorable messages, “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together” & “A World at Prayer is a World at Peace.” Known the world over as “The Rosary Priest,” he began Family Rosary, in Albany, N.Y. in 1942, more than 75 years ago with the goal of building family unity through daily prayer of the Rosary. He went on to lead millions in prayer at 40 Family Rosary Rallies that drew 28 million people, including 2 million each at events in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Manila, Philippines.

Venerable Fr Peyton pray for us.

And You Shall be My Witness - 'One Life is worth more than the whole world' Fr. Michael Shields from Magadan, Russia will be in Sligo Holy Cross Friary, High Street for a night of prayer & healing on Thurs January 4th.
