The Ascension of the Lord 28th May: Focus: We are assured of the power of God in our lives – the same power that raised Christ from the dead. – Jesus did not leave us orphans after his ascension into heaven. He is with us always, leading & guiding us by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus speaks to us directly in & through sacred Scripture, & works to strengthen & nourish us through the graces of the sacraments so we may grow in holiness.

Mass on Sunday 28th at 10am in Achonry for all students doing exams.

As we approach this stressful time of year for exam students and their parents please remember the words of a school principal in Singapore who wrote this letter to the parents.....

Dear Parents,

The exams of your children are about to start soon. But please do remember, among the students who will be sitting the exams there is an artist, who doesn't need to understand maths. There is an entrepreneur, who doesn't care about english literature or history. There's a musician whose chemistry marks won't matter. There's a sportsperson whose physical fitness is more important than physics.

If you child gets top marks, that's fantastic. But if they don't please do not take away their self-confidence & dignity from them. Tell them its Ok; it's just an exam. They are cut out for much bigger things in life. Tell them that no matter what they score, you love them & will not judge them. Please do this, & when you do, watch your children conquer the world. One exam or low marks won’t take away their dreams or talent. And please do not think that doctors & engineers are the only happy people in the world!     With Warm Wishes,     The Principal

World Communications Day will be celebrated on Sunday 28 May – the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.  Pope Francis has chosen the theme 'Fear not, for I am with you» (Is 43:5): Communicating Hope and Trust in our Time' for this year's message.

In his message Pope Francis is encourages individuals & communities to engage in constructive forms of communication that reject prejudice towards others, & to foster a culture of encounter, helping all of us to view the world around us with realism & trust.

Pope Francis says that he is convinced that we have to break the vicious circle of anxiety & stem the spiral of fear resulting from a constant focus on "bad news" (wars, terrorism, scandals & all sorts of human failure). This has nothing to do with spreading misinformation that would ignore the tragedy of human suffering, nor is it about a naive optimism blind to the scandal of evil.  Rather, he proposes that all of us work at overcoming that feeling of growing discontent & resignation that can at times generate apathy, fear or the idea that evil has no limits.  Moreover, in a communications industry which thinks that good news does not sell, & where the tragedy of human suffering & the mystery of evil easily turn into entertainment, there is always the temptation that our consciences can be dulled or slip into pessimism.

Pope Francis goes on to say that he would like, then, to contribute to the search for an open & creative style of communication that never seeks to glamourize evil but instead to concentrate on solutions & to inspire a positive & responsible approach on the part of its recipients.  He asks everyone to offer the people of our time storylines that are at heart "good news". See link to the full text on www.catholicbishops.ie
