Palm Sunday 9th April: Focus: Embracing the cross of Jesus leads to everlasting life. – The cross of shame in Jesus’ time has become for us the sign of victory over sin & death. By so doing, Jesus transformed the cross from an instrument of death into the tree of life & source of our salvation.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS on TV: It is estimated that Sligo Cathedral’s congregation will swell to over 2 million this Easter Sunday as mass from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is to be broadcast live on RTÉ Television and across Europe as part of the Eurovision project.

There will be two broadcasts from the Cathedral over the weekend, the Saturday night vigil mass will transmit on RTE 1 television and radio starting from 11pm and will be celebrated by Bishop Kevin Doran with parish clergy concelebrating.

On Sunday morning, the mass will start at the earlier time of 10am, to facilitate its being broadcast on the European Broadcasting Union satellite system, to Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and many other countries who take the feed as part of the European television exchange network, better known as Eurovision.  This mass will also be broadcast live by Ocean FM and, as with all masses celebrated at Sligo Cathedral, both will be available on our live web stream at www.sligocathedral.ie
Kairos Communications Ltd, who have two Sligonian’s from the Callagy family in their crew, will be on site at the Cathedral from Friday morning, rigging cables, setting lights and preparing the church for what will be a very special Easter weekend.  These historical events coincide with Sligo being nominated European Volunteering Capital for 2017 in recognition of the wonderful qualities shared by the people and the place; truly unique and valued by our European partners.
