August: Saturday Vigil Mass in Achonry 8pm.

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time 14th h August: Focus: Through placing our faith in God & living according to his commands, we become a source of hope. – As we read almost daily about terrorism & violence, it can seem like the good people are losing. This is not the case. As long as believers in God’s way exist, there is hope that love will overtake hate, good will overtake evil. Jesus’ perfect sacrifice of love upon the cross is definite proof that the power of sin & evil has been defeated. What more do we need?

Achonry Working Group: The Achonry creamery is closed. We tried to work with the Management of Aurivo & to date no one has received an explanation as to why the facility here had to close. Before we close this sad chapter of Achonry we would as those asked to represent the people of Achonry make the following statement. The obituary notice for Achonry creamery placed in the newsletter a number of weeks ago has our total backing. We take exception to the Management of Aurivo writing to the Bishop complaining & in doing so stating that it caused great annoyance in the local area. It was the Management’s decision to move the Butter Packaging that annoyed most people. They also stated that the clergy never asked for a meeting, we would remind them that there were four priests & several sisters at the meeting attended by Aurivo management in St Nathy's Hall. The clergy support us on this stand. We would request that Aurivo should now apologize & withdraw their letter containing such false statements.

Our concern has always been to limit the damage such managerial decisions can make to our Co-Op. Does the loyalty of its customers mean so little to the management? Where is the proposed task force that was promised? We would remind Aurivo that we will do what we can for our area, but we will not be bullied or dictated to by the very people we support through our loyalty to our Co-Op. It’s time the Board & Executive of Aurivo realized that we are not the enemy. As always we would ask people to continue their support for our Co-Op. Achonry Working Group

NOVENA PRAYER to Our Lady of Knock

In the name of the Father, & of the Son, & of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Give praise to the Father Almighty, To His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord, To the Spirit who lives in our hearts, Both now & forever. Amen.

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress, & comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find."

Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick, lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the Holy Mass. Give me a greater love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Pray for me now, & at the hour of my death. Amen.
